Dedicated instance · Germany; other locations on request · monthly cancellation

ThingsBoard on its own instance,
managed instead of self-operated.

Your ThingsBoard platform runs with its own database and assigned resources. We handle operations, updates, backups and monitoring.

When a dedicated ThingsBoard instance fits

The relevant factors are the operating model, data location, load profile and features your project requires.

Its own database

Telemetry, devices and configuration reside in a PostgreSQL instance used only by your deployment.

Assigned resources

CPU, RAM and storage are sized around message rate, integrations and data volume.

Selectable data location

Germany is the default, with seven further regions available for international deployments.

Managed operations

Updates, backups, monitoring and support are part of the operating model and do not have to be covered by your own team.

Appropriate edition

CE includes device management, dashboards, rule engine, alarms and multi-tenancy with no license surcharge. PE adds features including white-labeling, SSO/OAuth2, advanced RBAC and reporting. Choose the edition independently of instance size and support. PE license costs are quoted separately.

Export available

A complete export keeps the route to self-operation or another operator open.

Compute S: 2 vCPU, 4 GB RAM, 80 GB storage. M: 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 160 GB storage. L: 8 vCPU, 16 GB RAM, 240 GB storage. Each includes 5 TB of monthly traffic; additional traffic costs €1 per started TB.

Essential: Initial technical response to critical incidents (P1) by the end of the next business day, Mon-Fri, 08:00-17:00 CET/CEST · Business: Initial technical response to critical incidents (P1) within 4 service hours, Mon-Fri, 08:00-18:00 CET/CEST · Priority: Initial technical response to critical incidents (P1) within 1 service hour, Mon-Fri, 08:00-18:00 CET/CEST · Production: Initial technical response to critical incidents (P1) within 60 minutes, 24/7, P1 around the clock · Critical: Initial technical response to critical incidents (P1) within 30 minutes, 24/7, including callback, P1 around the clock. Production and Critical require technical acceptance. Critical is capacity-limited. Response targets apply to P1 incidents through the agreed ticket system, not to every request or a guaranteed resolution time. The flexible operations allowance applies to planned work during regular service hours and expires at month end. Operations, monitoring, backups, maintenance and updates within the agreed scope do not reduce it. Additional and incident work costs €120 net per hour in 6-minute increments during regular service hours and €240 net per started hour outside them.

What stays the same

Moving to us is not a platform change. It is the same software, operated differently.

The same interface

Dashboards, widgets, asset structures and alarm configuration look exactly as before, because it is the same application. Your team learns nothing new.

The same rule engine

Rule chains transfer as JSON. Every node is available, including in the Community Edition.

The same protocols

MQTT, CoAP and HTTP, plus the usual integrations. Device firmware does not need touching, only the endpoint changes.

No lock-in

The Community Edition is Apache 2.0 licensed. Whatever you build here keeps running on a self-operated instance.

Professional Edition available

CE includes device management, dashboards, rule engine, alarms and multi-tenancy with no license surcharge. PE adds features including white-labeling, SSO/OAuth2, advanced RBAC and reporting. Choose the edition independently of instance size and support. PE license costs are quoted separately.

Your data stays yours

A full export of the instance including the database, at any time, including when you decide to go a different way.

Data location as an argument of its own

When moving away from an international cloud, the place of processing is usually the second reason after price. The German region runs in data centers with ISO 27001 and BSI C5. A data processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR is part of every plan.

For deployments outside Germany, seven further regions are available: Netherlands, USA, Canada, Singapore, Japan, Australia and India. Inside the EU, Germany and the Netherlands avoid a third-country transfer entirely. The page on ThingsBoard hosting in Germany covers what that means in detail.

Moving off ThingsBoard Cloud in four steps

For small and mid-sized deployments, usually done within a working day.

  1. 1

    Provision the instance

Provisioning, any pilot and contract terms are agreed in the proposal. There is no automatic trial subscription.

  2. 2

    Export the configuration

Export dashboards, widgets, rule chains, device profiles and asset structures from the cloud as JSON and import them into the new instance.

  3. 3

    Move the devices

Change endpoint and credentials in the device configuration. For larger fleets do it in stages so both targets run in parallel until everything arrives cleanly.

  4. 4

    Bring the history

Pull existing telemetry through the REST API and write it into the new instance. We help with larger volumes.

Frequently asked questions about the ThingsBoard Cloud alternative

What does the dedicated ThingsBoard instance cost?+

M: from 159.80 € · L: from 219.80 € net per month with Essential. Higher service levels follow WZ-IT terms and include the first registered workload. Non-binding monthly indication for a standard environment in Germany. Setup, migration, additional integrations and vendor licences are quoted separately according to scope. Term and notice period are defined in the proposal.

What is a data point limit?+

A data point is a single telemetry value. A device sending five values every five minutes produces roughly 43,200 data points per month. At 100 devices that is about 4.3 million; at a 30-second interval it is roughly 43 million. The limit therefore depends on your sending behaviour rather than your fleet size, and that is exactly what makes cost planning awkward in data-point-based models.

What is the difference between a shared tenant and a dedicated instance?+

In a shared tenant your data lives in the same database and the same application as other customers, separated by the software's tenant logic. A dedicated instance is its own installation with its own database and its own resources. Day to day that rarely matters; for load spikes caused by other customers, for maintenance windows and for answering compliance questions, it does.

Can I bring my dashboards?+

Yes. Dashboards, widgets and rule chains export and import as JSON. It is the same ThingsBoard version, not a rebuild, so layout, widget configuration and data sources survive. The only adjustments are references to device IDs if you create devices anew rather than migrating them.

Do I need the Professional Edition?+

CE includes device management, dashboards, rule engine, alarms and multi-tenancy with no license surcharge. PE adds features including white-labeling, SSO/OAuth2, advanced RBAC and reporting. Choose the edition independently of instance size and support. PE license costs are quoted separately.

How long does migration take?+

For a small to mid-sized deployment, usually one working day: provision the instance, import the configuration, switch the devices over. In practice the time goes into changing device endpoints, not into the platform. For larger fleets we stage the move so old and new instance run in parallel.

Where is the data stored?+

In the default configuration, Germany, in data centers with ISO 27001 and BSI C5. Seven further regions are available, and a data processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR is part of every plan.

How are a pilot and contract start agreed?+
